What we want to have is network scanning
to a fax server—no analog lines needed, paperless. If this is not
possible, you already have a phone line out there for security/fire
alarm. According to this thread of emails, you’ll actually have two
over there for alarms, so you can pull off of either one. It is common
practice to share alarm lines for fax machines. Alarm lines are only
activated when an alarm is set off, and it is outbound dialing, so it would not
interfere with the fax, and vice versa.
IP telephony does not support analog phone
lines without specialized equipment. You would need a different router (I
think—the spare routers that are available don’t have the memory
and flash capacity to handle voice) and analog voice cards to get it to work
that way.
If you have more questions or need
more details, we can meet.

Hello,
We also need to consider that the branch
libraries each have two public lines; one is published as the site’s
phone number and the second is used as a roll-over for fax transmissions, etc.
Questions:
1. Should we order a second temporary
public line for
2. Will the new IP Telephony system work in
a similar manner (roll over for fax machine, etc.)
3. Should we meet to discuss?
Paul
Tommy,
Our alarm system requires that we have 2
phones lines for the alarm. Please get us a second line for CBL. We
have one at all 3 branches,
Thanks,

Also,
It is not necessary to order an additional
line for the fire alarm system.
Thanks for letting us know the urgency;
please keep me in the loop.

Good Morning Tommy,
Concerning the need for two additional telephone lines at
the Carvers Bay Branch Library, I just left you a voice message and am now
following up with this email request, too. As I mentioned by phone, we
need 2 additional lines at this new building.
One of these additional lines would be for our fire alarm
system. The other would be for communications with the general
public. The line that’s there now is hooked up to our building
security system.
The lack of a phone line for the fire alarm system is
holding up the transfer of the new library from the general contractor to the
county. Until that’s done, we can’t go forth with installing
some specialized hardware there (security monitors, wide screen TV, etc.) due
to lack of being able to monitor overall access to the building.
We’ll need a phone to communicate with the general
public, because we’ll start installing furniture at
I would really appreciate anything that you can do, Tommy,
to expedite the installation of these 2 additional telephone lines at the
Carvers Bay Branch Library in the very near future. If you need any
additional information, please let me know. Thank you very much.
