Currently it seems like Ethernet implementations (10Gbit-Ethernet, MetroEthernet) will replace ATM in many locations. Enables convergence of Voice, Video, Data on one network

Bryan,
I'm assuming this is the answer to the question you submitted to Rick
Daves yesterday afternoon regarding IPT technology traversing E-rate
funded circuits. It appears that Rick passed the question to Richard
bone. If this is not the case, let me know.

We are good to go. Dwight, archive this for future CYA needs. :)

We will be using cisco callmanager and cisco phones, installed by
verizon to provide the service. Does this qualify?
Thanks,
bryan

As long as the service is provided by a FCC certified Telcom Carrier
it
is ok. Time Warner is a certified Telcom Carrier.

Looks like a good plan for testing
WebSense capability. We should proceed with the following considerations:
Before committing to WebSense, we may have
other issues to consider related to Library versus County needs and
obligations.

Subject: websense monitor on
library router test
Paul-
I would like to test the library’s functionality with
our demo’d websense server to verify if configuring our server with two
(county and library) internet gateways works.
I want to turn on the url filtering feature on the router to
monitor only. What this will do is confirm that the router is indeed
communicating with our policy server. if we are able to start logging
library url requests then we will know that the configuration is a good one,
and when we decide to purchase websense, it will work for both the county and
the library.
This will not interfere with the library’s current web
blocker service running on the firebox. This will not permit or prohibit
any traffic at this time. It will slow down web page response time,
however. The router will see web requests, forward them to the websense
server, the server will check them against its internal database and apply its
policies, reply with permit or deny, and the router will follow the
server’s directions. The server is set up to monitor and log
traffic only. I do not have any
plans to enforce traffic policies during this test. Therefore all
responses from the server will be to allow the traffic, and the router will
comply.
The code I want to implement on the router, and its
explanation is:
ip urlfilter allowmode
on
//this will allow traffic to pass even if the router cannot talk to the server
ip urlfilter cache
500
//this will cache allowed/denied for 500 ip’s on the router (optional)
ip urlfilter server vendor websense
10.0.0.6 //sets the server type and
location to websense/10.0.0.6
The library router config is much more complex than a pix
firewall where I have already configured the filter service, so there may be a
couple more commands needed to implement this service. If this becomes the
case, I will let you know the commands after it is running.
Just let me know if I may proceed. To sum up, I will
test the communication of the library router to the websense server and the
library will see a slower response time of url lookups at the clients.
This will be a temporary implementation.

Rick-
Paul Carter with Georgetown County Library advised you could possibly answer the question is IPT an approved technology to traverse e-rate funded circuits for library use. I have been advised by vendors that it is, but I and the library would like to know definitively from the CIO that IPT will not break any policies set forth by the state.
Thx,
